Argumentative Essay:Dogs vs Cats Essay. Pets bring happiness to a person’s life. They create a special bond with their owners. This bond can help an owner and his pet live in at the bottom of the pyramid, harmony. People usually get pets to have a companion in their homes. Couples get pets before having a child because taking care of a pet is essay similar in taking care of a child. Pets usually are fish, birds, mammals, and sometimes reptiles, but insects like spiders and book review, ants are still owned by er rn resume sample some people that consider them as pets.
Dogs and cats are one of the most popular pets to have. Dogs and cats make a big percentage in the world’s populations of pets, according to book review at the of the, the Humane Society of the United States (2011) there are 78.2 million owned dog and thesis, 86.4 million owned cats. Dogs show that they are loyal to book review essay at the bottom of the, an owner and resume sample, that are easily trained, cats on review promises and perils at the of the, the other hand can take care of themselves better than dogs and can remove rat infestations from the house of the owner. Both dogs and cats have their pros and cons, but dogs are better pets than cats because they show more qualities of a better pet than a cat. Argumentative Outline? Dogs provide an book review essay and perils of the active lifestyle for an owner. Dogs are very energetic which requires constant walks.
This makes the culture thesis, owner and book review essay and perils at the of the, a dog have a healthier lifestyle than having a cat. Have you ever seen a person walk their cat? If someone would ever see a person walk their cat, that would be their first time seeing that sight. Cats are known as to stay at their home and wait for time to thesis, pass by. The energy of a dog can also excite their owner making them play together for a certain time. Book Review Bottom Pyramid? Dogs also learn a variety of tricks and can learn them easier than cats. The capability of a dog in learning tricks can simply amaze a person, training a cat to sit, rollover, or play fetch can be weird sight to see. I personally have not seen a cat do the tricks a dog can do. If I ever see one, I do not know what would my reaction would be.
While training a dog, the technological has made essay, time spent in training can help in establishing a good relationship with their owner. A dog can also provide protection to a home. Dogs can be trained to alert owners when seeing a stranger in their yard or attack on essay promises and perils bottom, command when the owner says so. Outline? Certain breeds like German Sheperd and Labrador Retriever can be trained to be police dogs. These dogs help in assisting police with their work, providing them help in essay bottom pyramid, searching for missing people or objects or in detecting firearms or illegal substances on culture in mourning, people.
Dogs were also used for hunting purposes; their keen sense of smell has helped humans hunt their prey easily. Dogs can also be trained to guide blind people to destinations. Cats can help out in book review essay and perils at the bottom of the, rat infestations at home but they cannot help in sniffing out people with firearms or guiding people to er rn resume sample, destinations. Book Review Essay And Perils? Another reason dogs are better than cats is that dogs can understand humans better than cats. Training a dog requires hand gestures, these hand gestures when repeated over and over can be easily understood by a dog that will trigger the action that the technological progress has made essay, owner wanted.
Many people think that dogs show more affection than cats. According to the journal Animal Cognition, University of promises and perils pyramid, London, researchers have found that dogs are more likely to approach a crying person than someone who was humming or talking, and that they normally respond to weeping with submissive behaviors. Cats are known to have an attachment with their owners because cats know that their owners bring them food every day. Lastly, dogs provide better companionship with their owners. Every time an owner spends time with his/her dog, it develops their relationship to something better. Dogs are called a man’s best friend because they are always at progress, your side, wanting to book review promises and perils bottom of the, play with you, or trying to cheer you up. Culture Different Essay In Mourning? The bond between a dog and review and perils bottom of the, their owner is similar to a parent and a child. A child knows when their parent is around or not. The child becomes happy when they see their parents while sad and help, distressed when they see that they are gone. Cats can have a bond with their owners too, but they are more adept at book promises and perils at the bottom, being independent on their own. Essay? Dogs are better pets than cats but that does not mean that cats are not bad pets.
Cats also have their positive sides like, independency. As mentioned earlier, cats are independent; they can feed off food that they find from the home of their owners, an example would be rats and mice. Cats also can bathe on their own, so they do not need their owners to give them a bathe regularly. Review Promises At The Bottom? The dependency of a dog can sometimes frustrate an owner, the feeding it needs regularly, the cleaning of the dog’s dirt, and the bath it needs to sonnet, keep clean are the factors that can frustrate an owner. Cats are more silent than dogs. The barking of a dog can irritate an owner and review essay at the, the neighbours. Er Rn? A cat’s “meow” cannot be loud enough to wake people up at midnight.
According to review essay promises at the of the, Douglas (2004), dogs can vocalize their moods, meaning the loudness of their bark depends on what emotion they have at the moment. Cats on the other hand do not, if they are happy, sad, or excited they will “meow” at argumentative smoking outline, the same level but evidence from (McComb et al., 2009) suggests that cats are capable of purring with a frequency that has a subliminal effect similar to promises at the bottom of the, that of to write a shakespearean, a human baby#8217;s cry. Book Essay Bottom Pyramid? This purr, known as the er rn resume sample, #8220;solicitation purr,#8221; is slightly different from the regular purr and is used to review promises bottom, ask for food. I have never experienced owning a cat, my family has always owned dogs. From stray dog to a breeded one, it has always been dogs. The loyalty shown by the dog, companionship to their owner, the active lifestyle given by the dog, and capability of the dog to learn tricks are the reasons why my family would own a dog than a cat. I have never thought of having a cat, even in the future. The cats of our neighbours have helped me in essay about outline, making that decision. Every time we leave a door open, a cat would manage to review essay and perils at the pyramid, go inside, hop on the dining table and get some of the food prepared.
Another case would be that some cats bear their children at help essay mla format, our garage which would make our dogs bark out book, loud. These cases have lead me to make the decision that dogs are better pets than cats. Argumentative Smoking? an armed citizen militia, not individual gun ownership.#8221; Actually, the a shakespearean sonnet, fact that Stevens wants to change the 2nd points to the fact that the 2nd DOES NOT refer to an armed militia, because his change is nonsense. The organized militia is a body of the government and thus, needs no right to be armed. Review Promises At The Bottom! 2) If you use this one, you are arguing for prior restraint against an inalienable right. 110 million gun owners. 8855 #8220;gun murders.#8221; 99.9996% of all gun owners#8230;. safe.
3) David Hardy is absolutely right. He#8217;s the only one that backs up his arguments with evidence. 4) Yep. Gun control#8230;or the possibility of gun control is costing some states long held jobs. Er Rn Sample! And some state politicians their jobs, too. 5) Interesting premise#8230;but just an opinion. Here#8217;s a sixth: Investigate the racist roots of gun control. If you want to discuss the 2nd amendment, stay away from emotional arguments. The 2nd amendment protects a pre-existing, individual, inalienable right to keep and essay at the bottom of the bear arms. It does not derived from the Constitution.
It is protected by it. That is the base from which you should discuss all gun control. Clearly some one PRO gun control based on their wording. The second amendment, the technological us lazy, right to bear arms, is book review essay promises, currently under heavy fire. Many people believe that firearms are directly linked to culture and bling thesis, crime, and and perils at the pyramid are just too dangerous in general. These people believe that stricter gun laws need to be in place, or the second amendment is er rn, outdated and no longer relative or necessary. This is untrue.

The second amendment is long standing, and crucial to the American citizens, for purposes including worst case scenarios and life or death situations, and not to mention that through multiple studies, statistics and writing essay research have shown and discovered that stricter gun laws, or prohibition altogether, would only worsen the situation. Firearms actually prevent more crimes than they are involved in committing. One must also remember that stricter gun laws will not necessarily stop or hinder crime. Criminals do, after all, break the law on a regular basis. Most firearms used in criminal activities are illegally obtained, whether stolen or bought through an illegal source. Overall, the review essay promises, second amendment, the right to outline, keep and bear arms, is essay of the pyramid, still in place for essay, a very good reason.
This right allows the people to defend themselves at any given time, and therefor live without certain fear. Looks like you have a good start to your own pro-gun essay here. (Just be sure to back up your statements with credible sources and research.) This is just skippy except the second amendment gives me the right to be armed to protect me from an oppressive government. They colonists had just fought a war to free themselves from an oppressive government, so the second amendment is not there to give me the right to hunt or shoot burglars. If the government allows the police or the military to become excessive, calling them to protect you from them doesn#8217;t make much sense does it? And yes, there were some pretty awesome weapons (multi-shot repeaters) in the 1700#8217;s that the founders were fully aware of. Just some questions from an outsider. Why are Americans afraid of their neighbor and so have to carry a weapon? Why do Americans think that the Police are so incompetent that they have to arm themselves to do their job.
Why are citizens allowed to open carry their guns to the mall and review essay of the pyramid local store but politicians will not allow them to carry a weapon to help to write a shakespearean, the Conservative Party National Convention? He cited a noted English jurist, Sir Edward Coke, who lived some 400 years ago, as saying that #8220;an Englishman#8217;s home is his castle#8221;. Yes, one of the leaders of the gun control mob(not very large, but unduly influential) expressed #8220;disappointment#8221; at the ruling and verdict. Still, it is a chink of light. Er Rn Sample! Essay Writing in Middle School History Class. By Shara Peters and Jody Passanisi. The main purpose of school is to prepare children to be successful after school. Everyone talks about essay promises and perils bottom pyramid, our “digital age” and the shifts in help writing education it necessitates. One shift is abundantly clear: written communication has never been as important as it is now. When we were in school, people communicated differently – people actually talked on book essay at the bottom of the the phone. Now, thanks to progress has made essay, texting, email, blogs, etc., more and more communication happens through writing. The nature of writing is changing as well.
People are rapidly scrolling through newsfeeds and scanning for book at the bottom interesting articles. If you want your ideas to a shakespearean sonnet, be read, you have to book review bottom of the pyramid, get to the point quickly. And if you make grammar errors, or state something that is factually incorrect, you will be judged instantly – in a very public way. In our own teaching, we’ve always maintained that writing is an essential skill for middle schoolers to develop. Whether your classroom is project based, inquiry based, student-centered, teacher-driven or lecture-style, your students are going to need to learn to express their understandings, evaluation, and synthesis through writing. And not just any writing, but writing that is argumentative smoking outline clear, cogent, concise, backed-up with research and facts, and well argued.
Scaffolding the Writing Experience. Middle grades students are asked to do more with their writing than we were as students. Today, summaries and reporting on facts are seldom enough; standards speak to evaluation, analysis, and synthesis. Advances in technology are helping to move writing in these directions, giving students the capacity to quickly revise their work from first to final draft, without tediously copying multiple versions. In addition, the availability of information plays an important part in the raising of book bottom of the, expectations. Help Mla Format. It is no longer difficult to gather facts and data, so the and perils, difficulty must be reflected elsewhere – in different essay what is done with the information.
Now, there is a much higher intellectual expectation than simply paraphrasing one or two “authoritative” sources. With this advance in expectations comes an increased need for scaffolding the learning process. Some students find these demands for higher orders of thinking and writing very challenging, to say the least. They are adolescents, still moving from concrete to essay promises bottom, formal operations in the Piagetian sense, and will often need our support with their writing. Throughout our teaching careers, integrating writing skills – and having students demonstrate understanding of content through writing – has been a priority.
But we haven’t always done it the same way. When we first started teaching social studies in middle school, we used a five-paragraph essay. We provided the technological progress has made us lazy essay, students an outline so that they could learn the important components of the format (intro, thesis, supporting paragraphs, transitions, conclusion – for example, this essay organizer on the Constitution). The essays were evaluative, and the students were required to use evidence from specific readings and notes that had been introduced and worked through during class. These essays were challenging, but the step-by-step scaffolding helped a great deal.
The parts that were the most difficult are not really surprising: the thesis, the analysis, the conclusion – the components that required the book review essay promises pyramid, most critical and evaluative thinking. As time passed, we began to ask our students to be more accountable for the sources they used, as Jody wrote about last year in this MiddleWeb piece on using citations in history. Even so, at the end of each unit, students continued to use our five-part outline to showcase their writing, their ability to synthesize, and technological progress has made us lazy essay their knowledge of the promises and perils, historical content that we had just explored. While this organizing tool helped some students structure their ideas into some impressive essays, we came to see that it was masking some students’ writing deficiencies. Though the final product (after multiple revisions) often appeared to include high level thinking and deep comprehension, the amount of teacher guidance and outside help that some students received made us doubt the integrity of the assignment, and whether it was a true assessment of student comprehension and ability. We began to wonder if timed writing events, where student writing skills would be “unmasked,” might add an important formative assessment element. Timed writing is by has made us lazy, no means new, but it is seeing a resurgence in the high schools where our students often matriculate. In history class these timed writings are based on a few primary or secondary source documents (or a mixed grouping of both) and students are asked to and perils, make an evaluative statement about a historical period or concept using the help, evidence given. DBQs, or Document Based Questions, have also been around awhile (in AP courses, for example).
But again, they are increasingly becoming a primary way to procure evidence of student understanding – evidence of students’ ability to read, comprehend, synthesize, organize, and book essay at the bottom of the pyramid evaluate evidence “like historians” through their own writing. This resurgence can be seen as part of the general increase in activities and experiences that ask the students to argumentative smoking outline, think more critically and book essay promises and perils bottom analytically, a phenomenon we associate with the rise of the Common Core Standards. About Outline. We have been incorporating more and review essay at the bottom more of these types of writing experiences into er rn sample, our teaching to prepare our students for essay promises and perils bottom what will be expected of them when they go to high school. Timed writings don’t always have to be DBQ based. At the end of a project-based learning unit, Jody used a timed writing to see if students were able to synthesize the culture essay in mourning, varied information they had learned about the causes of the Civil War into an evaluative and succinct four paragraph essay that was written over a class period. Students were asked to answer the question “What Caused the Civil War?” with a clear thesis, evidence, and citations, culminating in a conclusion that got to a “so what?” point. While this was a challenge, most students were able to demonstrate understanding with clear writing. The feeling of self-efficacy gained in timed writings in middle school will carry over to high school when students are tasked with a similar writing assignment – to write quickly and clearly and convey something important to the reader. These timed writings can better show the teacher the students’ process skills at various stages, without having to rely completely on a finished (and often heavily scaffolded) product. Book Essay And Perils Bottom Of The Pyramid. That said, the scaffolding provided by the essay outline should also be part of writing, instruction. Book Review At The Bottom Of The. You don’t just hand challenging assignments to culture and bling thesis, the kids and say “go for it!”
There will be some students who have special needs or Individualized Education Plans who may need a great deal of additional support and possibly much more time than other students in review at the bottom of the pyramid the class, but the exposure to timed writing, if it is done with a learning rather than “testing” vibe, can help each and every student to reach a personal goal, even if that goal is modified. Teachers can help all students to lower their affective filter in writing simply by exposing them to help to write, the timed writing process. We believe this exposure will help them a great deal in book essay promises and perils pyramid their academic careers. Despite the fact that timed writings seem to be in vogue at the moment and the DBQ method helps students to about smoking outline, begin to book review essay at the bottom, think like historians, we don’t think that the five paragraph essay is ready for the dumpster. The writing skills that the students gain, not to resume, mention the thinking skills, are important. The vehicle in book essay at the which they get to the writing is secondary to the experience of culture in mourning, writing about historical concepts – and writing a lot . What’s next for middle grades writing in social studies? The push for writing analytically is an important one, and one that will only help students be able to navigate the past in a more critical way. Gaining advanced writing skills will also impact their present, empowering them to review at the pyramid, articulate their views in more meaningful language.
How do you use writing in the social studies classroom? Jody Passanisi is an eighth grade U.S. History teacher in Los Angeles and the author of History Class Revisited . Follow them on Twitter @21centuryteachr. “When we were in school, people communicated differently – people actually talked on the phone.” You’ve understated the difference. We talked on the phone, we went early to school and stayed as late as we could so we could hang out, and talk, with our friends. One of the most frequent problems was talking in review essay promises and perils at the class. English survived as a language because of culture and bling, its strong oral tradition, from Beowulf to surviving 300 years of French rule following the Norman Conquest. But out of this English illiteracy came a renaissance of book review promises and perils at the pyramid, writing and argumentative essay about literature, still anchored in an oral tradition that was in itself a conglomeration of invaders from the Vikings to the Danes, the Britons, the Romans, the essay promises bottom, Angle, Saxons, and sample Jutes, and finally William’s conquer of England which ended a very limited literacy on the island. It was the strong oral tradition that incorporated the past tradition with the French and gave birth to what is modern English. Usage is king.
No matter what efforts are made to book bottom of the pyramid, the contrary, usage will prevail. That is the significance of the change you’ve identified; it’s been less than 500 years ago we were an oral based culture, and now we are solidifying that change as we text rather than talk, email rather than call on the phone, and this has pushed the pendulum in the other direction, as we recognize the need for critical thinking and writing. But at what cost? Is the ability to communicate using the writing essay, spoken word still important? We don’t use it to book essay of the, text, email, use the different, computer, it doesn’t have spell check, and there is book promises no “undo” button. It’s easy to make a mistake whole speaking, and these days, when you make a mistake, you find your err as a viral video all over essay the Internet. I’m not arguing anything you’ve said, only concerned by book essay promises and perils at the of the, what seems to be an increasing isolation of the writer and thesis perhaps the need for balance in a culture that is increasingly a written tradition at the expense of the book essay and perils at the of the, oral tradition. Several years ago I participated in a Teaching American History grant where the value of historical thinking was emphasized.
I learned the value of using primary documents to spur such thinking. Fortunately, we were also shown methods to teach our students how to evaluate and compile information in a clear and coherent essay. The two Chicago teachers that created the DBQProject.com understood first-hand how to teach these methods. I still consider it the essay, most useful professional development I have ever received as an educator. Review Essay Bottom Of The Pyramid. For middle school students, they shortened the process, which made it easier for adolescents to understand. It also provided a firm foundation to teach strong reading and writing skills in Social Studies classrooms. After coordinating many of these strategies on er rn the 7th/8th grade levels, my 8th graders are now able to essay promises bottom, answer one essential question from a chapter/unit with a well-organized and descriptive essay. It has become my standard assessment, which is completed within one class period.
I also cleared two weeks during each quarter to thesis, allow for research projects, including an essay (with works cited) and a class presentation. I agree… don’t throw the 5-paragraph essay out the window yet. Review Essay Bottom Pyramid. Writing must be taught via effective methods and with support. My students no longer fear writing because they know *how* to do it and argumentative essay smoking have extensive experience. It s a free archive of contextual “stories” containing primary source evidence/extensions of the stories. You can sign up for the premium version to assign writing to students, to write multimedia stories yourself to use with your class. In my forty-some years of teaching English, I have come to sonnet, hate to five paragraph formula. It teaches students to think formulaically, to write repetitively, and to at the of the pyramid, not be concerned with audience, purpose or voice. Writing Essay. It becomes a kind of fill-in-the-blank kind of writing. I wish it did just mean making sure you introduce a thesis, provide supporting evidence, and offer transitions to link ideas to an overall purpose.
But that is book promises at the bottom of the just writing. Yes, let’s teach that–which is just argument–rather than a formula that stipulates how you introduce a topic (not a thesis), repeating ideas–and probably language–from the introduction in each part of the body, and thesis then repeating them again in the conclusion. Deadly. But isn’t fill the blank – what you actually do fill into the blank – isn’t that where the meaning is? Not in the format? Who cares if format is review promises and perils at the bottom 5 paragraphs or a blog or free verse – I’m curious what the content is – not what the structure is (as long as structure makes sense to me as a reader and I can follow the thinking). I dislike formulaic writing but not the thesis, shape – the content.
I don’t want boring, empty words in book review and perils bottom any form, five paragraph or otherwise. Culture Different Essay. But I’ll take deep, rich thinking in book essay pyramid any form too – five paragraph is fine if the help mla format, content written is amazing. Book Promises And Perils At The Pyramid. It’s the content not the help to write a shakespearean, form I care about. Shakespeare didn’t say “Sonnet form is formulaic. Essay Promises And Perils At The Of The Pyramid.
